Out and About

James Wilson’s first week at school was pretty good — he got all the teachers he likes and he’s getting back into a routine. Tonight he’s playing D&D online with a group he joined last Spring and he’s really glad it’s the weekend. We’re going to watch the final episode of Once tonight for pizza movie night. We started it pretty early in the pandemic and have gotten through all 7 seasons. It was great for us as a family to have that show to escape to and live in and it’s likely going to take on an emotional connection for us and lodge us in a place and time. Now that I’m saying this I’m thinking there’s an essay to be written about this.
Speaking of writing, I’m back in the saddle. I’ve started writing on Medium and I love it. I’ve just written two essays so far (and they are nothing ground breaking) but it has felt really good to be writing again and I feel like I’ve opened up something that was stuck for a while. I always feel best when I’m writing.
Today was really nice out and now that JW is back in school I’m finding I’m getting out and about more. To be clear, I’m still not getting together socially with anyone unless it’s just one on one in an outside location with plenty of distance between us, but I am taking long walks and I rode my bike into the Jordaan today. I went early and it wasn’t too crowded so I could bike comfortably.
