Country and Christmas Fair

Yesterday we went to Kasteel de Haar for the annual Country and Christmas Fair. I love this event so much. The castle itself is so fabulous and all the vendors and markets are full of things to eat, drink, and buy. We mostly ate. It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Kasteel de Haar means Castle of the Hair and this certainly seems like where Rapunzel lives

Was glad to see the cool Steampunk coffee guy here again this year

I think JW had fun, but the Christmas Market is not exactly the kind of thing a 13-year old is crazy about. The food perked him up. He and James went to a Comic Con event the next day and JW got to dress up in the costume he made for dress as your favorite TV character day for school earlier this week and he saw another character there from the same show — Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure — so that was the highlight of his weekend, whereas the winter fair at the castle was mine. I spent the whole time walking around yelling isn’t this great!?

Merry Carolers

We ate and drank so much good stuff. Verse Fries with mayo, fried kibbling, poffertjes, hot chocolate, gluwein, and we bought cheese and fudge to bring home.

James wanted to plan it so we were still there when all the lights came on. It was so pretty — all the market stalls had lights, there were candles burning everywhere, and the castle grounds had a water light show spectacle similar to the one they do in Efteling. There were also little bonfires burning all around the grounds which created a lovely, festive winter atmosphere.
