Life, Or Something Like It

It’s the end of April and I guess we’ve settled into what life during Coronavirus is like for now. James Wilson is doing a really good job with his online learning, James is busy with work, and I just figure out ways to pass the time. Our life mostly centers around food — making sure we have it, figuring out how to prepare it, cooking, eating and cleaning. Repeat. We’re lucky we have a good supply chain here and everything is delivered.

We had a lot to celebrate in the last couple of weeks. I recovered from whatever illness I had, James and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary, and it was King’s Day — possibly the biggest Dutch holiday of the year, although this year all festivities were canceled, of course. The Gemente made a big effort to create online and virtual King’s Day celebrations, which was very thoughtful, if not entirely successful.

Overall, we’re doing pretty well and we’re grateful for all the good things we have in our lives right now.

On Saturday James and JW worked really hard to make a super fancy dinner for us.

We took our tampouce and ate it on Shrimpy. We have her moored in a really good spot on the canal by our house. It’s very private and it was so nice to soak up the sun and get some fresh air.
We didn’t take the boat out, we just enjoyed being on it and watching the world go by.

We’re so grateful for the excellent food deliveries we’re able to get. This is a support locals box. We get a box of veg delivered each week from a local farm, too.
The Dutch flower growers are really struggling since flower exports have stopped. Some of the greenhouses were offering to deliver tulips just so they don’t have to be destroyed. We ordered 400 and paid full price, which was still really cheap.
We are grateful for all the good things we have in our little corner of the world.
