Fall

We’re back in the swing of every day routines now that Fall has arrived. James Wilson seems to be settling in to the new school year and so far he likes all his teachers and classes. He also signed up for Basketball, Squash, Production Club (Drama) and Dungeons and Dragons.

I’m sort of responsible for The Dungeons and Dragons Club. JW joined a campaign while he was at summer camp and loved it and really wanted to continue playing but he couldn’t get any of his friends here to commit. It was frustrating for him and he’s struggled to make connections with friends here like he had back home so I asked the school about creating a D&D club and they said we could do it. James volunteered to lead the group as Dungeon Master. Hopefully enough kids will sign up so they can have a successful campaign and then JW will be able to continue playing independently once the ball is rolling. James is awesome for committing to running the club. I’m going to go too so I can see how it’s played and hopefully be able to fill in if James needs some backup.

The other awesome thing James did was bicycle from London to Amsterdam to raise money for the National MS Society. His coworkers organized the ride and they all chose their own charities to support. James worked hard to prepare for the ride and he was glad he did. He was mostly able to stay in the lead group and learned the Peloton maneuvers during the ride. Thank you to everyone who contributed money to help him meet his fund raising goal. I think he’s hooked on road biking now. It may be something we can do together… We’re signed up for a 40K family ride this weekend so we’ll see how it goes.

I’ve been busier than I want to be with my volunteer position with the Parents Organisation (weird British spelling). I’m hoping once the back-to school-hoopla is over things will settle down because it has sucked up all my time and I’m a bit grumpy about it. I like volunteering for the events and being connected to the school but I also have a bunch of other responsibilities (producing a weekly newsletter, a quarterly magazine page, and taking meeting minutes every week) and those bits are what seem to be aggravating me the most. I’m not quite sure how I got sucked into all that… but here we are so we shall see how it goes.

Poor Brian is still itching. He’s been itchy since we moved here and it got unbearable while we were away in Croatia. At first we thought it was all the swimming, then maybe food allergies but we’ve followed the vets protocols and neither of them seem to be the source. Hopefully we’ll get to the bottom of it soon so he can get some relief.
