Endless Summer
August 7, 2019
Summer in Amsterdam is glorious. Aside from the two heatwaves, the weather is amazing — cool, breezy, low humidity and mostly sunny. The days stretch on impossibly long. On sunny days, the sun doesn’t set until after 10pm.
We had a lot of hustle and activity at the beginning of our summer with family and friends visiting, but the last couple of weeks have been quiet and I’ve gotten into a groove with the slower pace with JW off at summer camp and James working. I’ve been staying up later, having slow mornings with coffee and early morning canal walks with Brian, biking to the gym to swim or use the elliptical machine, reading in the garden, taking afternoon naps, eating late dinners, and taking the Shrimp Whisker out for evening canal cruises with James.
Gay Pride is celebrated the last week of July in Amsterdam. James and I walked to the canal ring to see the Pride parade on the Prinsegracht canal. It was amazing!
JW and I gave James a Driving Experience at the Formula One racetrack in Zaandevort for his birthday. I took the Sprinter out to the beach to watch James drive and then spent the day in the North Sea.
We took some weekend afternoon and week-night evening boat excursions on the Shrimp Whisker.
James Wilson got home from camp yesterday and my heart is so full. I got a solid 5-6 hours of his attention before I lost him to his electronics, but we have our two week vacation to Croatia with the Farmers starting this Saturday! It truly is an endless summer, and it’s magical.
