Tulips

The tulips are in bloom. We’ve spent the last couple weeks getting as much tulip time as we can. We got our first glimpse of tulip fields when we drove into the country during Anne and Jeff’s visit. Last week we took an excursion to Keukenhof, which is an enormous botanical garden featuring pretty much every variety of tulip there is. It was gorgeous but super crowded — it’s a major tourist attraction, but with good reason. Today we drove out to Flevoland and rented bikes with Tom and Hope and rode through the countryside along the tulip trail. If you do the entire trail it’s about 40 kilometers, but we probably did about 12-15 kilometers, which was still pretty significant. Every field was spectacular.

The tulip season is fairly short. Last week it was still really cold so not all the blooms were out yet but it got much warmer this week and everything has popped. It’s really quite amazing to be in Amsterdam for tulip season.
