Jessie’s Visit

Jessie Bellamy deserves all the props because she visited Amsterdam in the heart of zero-dark-winter February for the sole purpose of hanging out with us and she is the absolute best.

The glorious Dutch winter weather

We started the week renting a Connect Car and heading out to North Holland for a tulip show

We took a canal tour on my favorite winter boat, The Agatha, went to Seafood Bar and ordered Treasures of the Sea, and went to the symphony.

I made Jessie eat a stroopwafel at the Albert Cuyp Market

Jessie’s a natural biking through the city though I had to tell her to stop talking to me while we were biking unless it was an emergency because I couldn’t hear her and I kept thinking she needed to stop. We did stop frequently to take in all the beauty of the city. She fits right in.

We had the loveliest time, but it was way too short, and just before she left I got hit with a horrible stomach bug that laid me flat for 36 hours. Perhaps it was the crawdad seeking revenge? Thankfully we had packed a ton in before it hit, and Jessie, being the world traveler that she is, carried on like a trooper, heading out into the city and even out to Zaanse Schans all by herself.

Brian was devastated when she got her suitcase out to leave this morning

The only thing keeping me from being really depressed now that she’s gone is that James Wilson and I fly to California tomorrow to visit Brooke and family. I’m also distracted by the physical torture I just experienced. I got my legs waxed for the first time since moving here and the Dutch waxer told me to “get ready for pain” and she was not lying. I need an ambulance now, please. These people are sadists.
