‘Tis the Season

We got our Christmas tree today.  All we had to do was walk down the street a block to our circle and pick one out.  The vendor told James all the trees he had were the finest because “it’s a fancy neighborhood.”  I guess he’s right because our tree is awesome.  It’s the biggest one we’ve ever had — we went big since we’ve got high ceilings.

Brian sported his Christmas sweater for the occasion.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

While we were decorating the tree James Wilson said that it’s finally starting to feel like home here, and I played it cool, but I will tell you that I nearly started crying. It made me so happy to hear those words.  I want him to feel connected and at home here, and I worried he’d have a hard time with the holidays. We had such a lovely day decorating and then we rode our bikes up to Museumsplein and had lunch while we watched the ice skaters, and then got Oliebollen (fried dough balls covered in powdered sugar).

We rode bikes with Brian for the first time. Luckily it went fine….

We didn’t bring all our Christmas stuff to Amsterdam– just the ornaments.  I have to say, I’m glad.  Christmas typically overwhelms me but I feel very relaxed this year and I’m enjoying the season more than I usually do.

James and I went to a holiday cocktail party tonight.  I wore my new Liberace-Vampire velvet blazer that I bought for 6 euros at a thrift store.  We got all dressed up then rode our bikes to the party in the rain.
