Dorothy and Sinterklaas Arrive!

Two very special visitors arrived in Amsterdam yesterday.  Sinterklaas, who lives in Spain in the off season, arrived by boat and then got on his white horse, Amerigo, and paraded through the streets of Amsterdam with a bunch of Zwarte Piets (Ummmm, Google them, or perhaps read David Sedaris’s story “6-8 Black Men”).

James and James Wilson braved the cold and the crowds to greet Sinterklaas on his boat. Then they met me and my other very special guest in town for the parade.

That’s Sinterklass arriving on a steamer ship

The parade for Sinterklaas once he’s back on land
Never too early for gluwein, it seems. (It smells really good!)
And for the grand finale, Sinterklaas and his white horse, Amerigo arrive!

The other very special visitor to arrive yesterday is my very best friend Dorothy! She also came bearing many wonderful gifts. I’m so happy she’s here and we have lots of fun things planned for her while she’s here so stay tuned…

Welcome, Dorothy!!
She brought me so many treasures!
We had our first fire in of the season. We didn’t burn the house down, which is a plus.

The animals are most pleased to have her here. Brian seems to have forgotten he BROKE HER HIP.
